Committee amends and advances work group to study rise in adverse health-care decisions

Committee staff explained that the measure brings together stakeholders — similar to a previous emergency department work group — to analyze trends and recommend actions. The chairs of the Health and Government Operations Committee (HGO) and the Finance Committee worked together on the cross-file, and staff said the sponsors agreed to add a second physician member after stakeholders raised the issue.
Senator Ellis moved the favorable report and Senator Lamb seconded. The committee recorded a unanimous vote.
Committee staff noted that the Maryland Hospital Association (referred to as MHA in the hearing) had one appointment under earlier drafting and that the amendment balanced physician representation on the work group. The committee did not adopt additional statutory changes; the work group is intended to collect information for possible future legislative action.
