Jared Chmblay of the Metropolitan Planning Organization told the Riley County commission on March 20 that the MPO is hosting a series of public meetings on an electric vehicle (EV) readiness plan and that one session will be held in Manhattan.
Chmblay said the plan takes a regional view of preparing infrastructure and policy "if and when EVs do become more popular here" and that the MPO will review the plan later with its policy board. He distributed postcards to commissioners inviting them to the public meetings and offered to return to the commission to present the plan in person if the commissioners were interested.
Why it matters: An EV readiness plan addresses regional infrastructure needs such as charging, land use and coordination among local governments. The meetings provide opportunities for local officials and residents to comment on regional planning assumptions and priorities.
What happens next: The MPO will hold its scheduled public sessions; commissioners may request an in-person briefing from MPO staff.
