Council approves one-hour noise-ordinance variance for Viking Fest street dance

Special-event staff introduced the request and identified Kathy Forsey as the Viking Fest organizer. Forsey said the event has run “this will be the third or fourth year” and described the street dance as popular; she added “If it rains, we stop the dance.”
Council moved and seconded a motion to grant a one‑hour noise variance for the street dance. The motion passed on a council vote during the regular meeting.
The variance was presented to council so organizers could finalize event logistics and publicize Viking Fest dates (May 16–18). Staff noted typical special-event processes: applicants work with staff, the city posts public notice, and council consideration is used when an applicant seeks an exception to city code (for example, a noise variance or an alcohol/beverage permit).
