House education panel advances Math Corps bill to Education Finance

The House Education Policy Committee on March 18 adopted an amendment and voted to move House File 11-71, a Math Corps bill, to the Education Finance Committee.

Representative Bennett moved the A2 amendment, which "simply adds a definition for evidence based math," she told the panel. Representative Ray Rauer said he appreciated Representative Bennett's work and supported the amendment. The committee adopted the amendment by voice vote, and later approved the bill as amended by voice vote.

The bill had previously been heard by the committee and the chair noted no additional public testimony would be taken at this hearing. Committee members praised Math Corps and Reading Corps programs as important supports for literacy and numeracy.
