Avon Grove to align middle- and high-school grading scale with county starting 2025-26

Avon Grove School District staff told the board they will propose a change to the secondary (middle and high school) grading scale to align with the other high schools in the county, effective with the 2025'ad26 school year. The proposed change moves the district to a common county standard (for example, an A starting at 90, a B starting at 80) and is intended to give students consistent grade reporting when compared with neighboring districts.
District staff said they tested PowerSchool and are confident the grading-scale change can be applied beginning in 2025'ad26 without retroactively changing recorded grades from prior years. The staff presentation noted the district's existing "reporting pupil progress" board policy does not specify a numeric grading scale, so the change would be implemented administratively and reflected in next year'as student handbooks and materials.
Board members said parents and students have raised the issue previously and that alignment will remove confusion for applicants and families who compare grades across districts. Staff indicated the change arose during earlier work on class-rank policy and after seeking examples from other districts.
