Resident raises longstanding concerns about school spray field safety and upkeep

During public comment at the Henderson County Board of Education meeting, resident Joe Mylan urged the board to address persistent problems with a lagoon spray field behind school property, raising questions about testing, permitting and long-term repairs.
Mylan said the spray field has received more repair work in the past 12–14 months than in the prior 30 years but asserted it is still not in proper condition. "We don't need this community to wait 2 more years to get that booked apart," Mylan said, and asked whether the water is safe and whether it has been tested.
Mylan described runoff entering a ditch behind his house and ultimately reaching local water: "That sewer wire that that spray field is supposed to it's not supposed to leave that spray field, but when it overflows or runs too long, it goes in that ditch, runs right behind my house, and winds up in the forklift," he said.
Mr. Walker, a district staff member, responded that he had met with Mylan earlier and offered to review permitting and meet with him; Walker said he appreciated Mylan's passion and invited any board member who wanted to examine permitting records to join the meeting.
The board did not take formal action on the issue during the meeting; Walker offered to follow up with the resident on permitting and next steps.
