FEMA-supported facilities project cleared to be advertised pending code updates

The Fayetteville City Board of Education on March 3 authorized district staff to advertise a FEMA-related facilities project after confirming federal and state participation and noting required plan updates to meet current building codes.

In a report from the facilities and transportation committee, the board heard that the FEMA grant has been allocated to the state and that the district anticipates approximately 90% federal funding with a 5% match from TEMA. The committee said it will not advertise the project until revised plans reflecting current building-code requirements are completed and approved.

Attendees at recent grant-planning meetings included system staff, an architect from JBHM, project manager Greg Kennedy and city representatives, including Mayor Joseph Faulkner and a Mr. Bradford. The committee asked the board to approve a motion giving permission to advertise the project once required code updates and revisions are finished; the board approved that authorization by voice vote.
