Colorado Springs School District 11 staff told the board on March 19 that Jenkins Middle School is on a timeline to accept incoming sixth graders for the start of the 2025-26 school year, with fuller occupancy to be determined after further reports and town halls.
Superintendent (name not specified) said the district intends to bring "partial occupancy" back to Jenkins in August 2025 by starting with a new cohort of sixth graders who would complete sixth, seventh and eighth grade at Jenkins if conditions allow. Families seeking other placements were advised to continue applying for choice permits until openings are confirmed, the superintendent said.
Staff said an architect and the district's general contractor will deliver a draft report on March 28, and staff will brief the board internally on March 31. The district plans two town halls in April at Daugherty High School for both incoming families and current Jenkins families who are temporarily housed at Russell and Doherty; those dates and details will be finalized with Doherty staff and published to families.
The board thanked staff for the update and said it expected a more complete report and renderings at the April 2 board meeting. The superintendent and staff said they will publish the slides and follow‑up letters to families; the district expects to honor incoming sixth‑grade registrations for Jenkins up until the first couple of weeks of school.
