Summary
Staff outlined three technology procurements: 40 ViewSonic interactive displays ($123,825), managed broadband services from Intech Southwest ($69,310; E-rate eligible), and 43 HP Z workstations for CTE ($94,987). Each purchase is slated for board approval at Monday's meeting.
Miss Martinez, district technology staff, reviewed three separate technology procurements the administration will present for board approval at the regular meeting on Monday: 40 ViewSonic interactive displays for classrooms and campus use, managed internal broadband services from Intech Southwest, and 43 HP Z workstations for career and technology education labs.
On the interactive displays, staff recommended purchasing 40 ViewSonic units from Intech Southwest for $123,825 under contract number 23022 through the Region 20 cooperative. Martinez said the units are being purchased by specific campuses — McCollum High School, Harlandale Middle, the Carrollville Education Center, Schultz and Adams elementaries, the Frank Tejeda Academy, and athletics — and that additional districts purchases could be pursued through a separate RFP to procure displays for more classrooms next year. The district has already deployed about 85 interactive boards and the 40 would expand that inventory. Martinez said the district included four days of training in the procurement: three days before the school year and one additional day after school starts for late hires; the vendor'supplied warranty was described in the RFP as a 10-year warranty with the first five years at no charge, years six-seven requiring service-call fees, and years eight-ten covering parts as specified in the proposal.
On networking, Martinez outlined a proposal to award RFP #250830 (managed internal broadband services) to Intech Southwest at a low-bid cost of $69,310. She described the award as e-rate eligible: U.S. Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) would cover 85% ($58,913) and Harlandale ISD's budgeted general fund would cover the district's 15% share ($10,396) for the year, contingent on USAC approval. Staff described the managed services as including 24/7 priority support, firewall and network equipment maintenance, after-hours help-desk support, and remote and on-site advanced network services managed by a dedicated team of engineers.
On high-end desktops, Martinez recommended purchase of 43 HP Z workstations from Intech Southwest at $94,987 to support video production, graphic design and other CTE activities requiring high processing and graphics capability. Funding for those workstations would come from the career and technology department budget; the purchase would also be made under contract number 23022 through the Region 20 cooperative.
Board members asked about campus distribution, training, warranty and how the displays are integrated into instruction. Martinez said the interactive displays are touchscreen computers that can mirror content to student devices, and that the district is piloting and showing units in sites such as the Carrollville Education Center and the district museum. The items were informational in the work session and will be presented to the board for formal action on Monday.
