The Angola Historic Preservation Commission on March 19 elected Clay Birkett as chair, selected Claudia as vice chair, and voted to endorse Lou Anne Holman as a new commission member.
Commission members said the endorsement of Holman will be forwarded to the mayor, who makes formal appointments. The commission also approved minutes from its Feb. 19 meeting; one member said they would abstain because they had not attended the February meeting.
The vote to endorse Holman was moved and seconded at the meeting; commissioners said all present voted in favor. The commission noted Holman has previously led school programs and shown interest in reviving downtown walking tours. Members said they expect Holman’s attendance record and outreach skills to be beneficial to commission activities.
Commissioners discussed the procedural role of the mayor in appointments and clarified that while the mayor appoints members, the commission provides a recommendation. Members agreed staff will contact Holman to notify her of the commission’s action.
The meeting record shows the elections and endorsement were handled by motion and voice vote; a formal mayoral appointment was not recorded at the meeting.
