The Public Amenities Commission voted to formally recognize two volunteers — Matthew McCauley for work with the Redondo Sunset Champions League and Carl Leach for volunteer work with the South Bay Parkland Conservancy.
Commission staff told the body the Volunteer Acknowledgement Subcommittee reviewed two nominations and recommended the commission acknowledge both volunteers. Staff noted that while there is no financial gain associated with the recognition, Commissioner Macaulay would recuse himself from the decision because of a relationship with one of the nominees.
Commissioner Lang moved to recognize both volunteers; another commissioner seconded. There was no public opposition. The commission took a roll‑call vote and approved the acknowledgment; Vice Chair Morocco recorded the motion as passing. Minutes and the staff report state the action passed and that McCauley was recused for the item.
Members of the public who work with the conservancy spoke in support of Carl Leach’s nomination during the meeting’s public comment period. Staff said the commission will invite the two honorees to a future meeting to receive their certificates.
