Ysleta ISD cancels May trustee elections after candidates run unopposed; district estimates roughly $150,000 savings

Ysleta Independent School District trustees on Wednesday acknowledged certification that four trustee seats were unopposed and agreed to cancel the May 2025 election for those seats.
The board motion acknowledged receipt of the certification of unopposed candidates and declared the candidates duly elected for Districts 1, 3, 5 and 7 after the canvass. Chief counsel Priscilla Mata told the board that coordinating four separate elections with the county would have cost the district approximately $150,000; canceling the contested elections will avoid that expense.
Trustees praised the unopposed candidates and said the result reflects community support. The motion passed unanimously, 7–0.
The board did not reallocate the savings during the meeting; trustees asked budget staff whether the estimated election savings were already allocated and where unspent election funds might be applied, with staff answering those budget allocation questions would follow through the district finance process.
