The Middleton City Council authorized purchases needed to maintain operations at the city’s wastewater treatment plant (WWTP). The council approved buying two air control valves from Ferguson Water Works for an amount not to exceed $5,615.91, and it authorized up to $1,700 in hourly service assistance from AUMA Actuators Inc. to help calibrate and commission the valves.
Staff explained the valves are used to direct and modulate blower air between two treatment basins; seals on the existing valves were failing after more than a decade of service. Replacing the valves will allow the plant to run both basins simultaneously and better modulate air flow. Staff said the manufacturer’s representative would assist with calibration and setup; the quoted hourly rate for the representative is $195 per hour and the council capped total assistance at $1,700.
Council members moved and seconded the authorization and approved the purchases by voice vote. Staff characterized the work as important to continuing WWTP operation and noted plans to still use the basins in some capacity after a new treatment plant is in service.
