Selma board approves event sponsorship policy, asks staff to define benefits and create sponsor packet

The Selma Recreation Advisory Board approved an event sponsorship policy March 19 that establishes tiered sponsorship levels and general recognition types for town events, but board members directed staff to clarify deliverables and produce a detailed sponsor packet outlining specific benefits.

Board members said the policy is a useful high-level document but urged staff to remove subjective adjectives such as “spotlight” and “special recognition,” and to instead define precisely what sponsors will receive (for example, number and timing of social-media posts, logo placement sizes on event signage, and inclusion in press materials). Several members recommended that the policy remain high-level and be paired with an operational packet or procedure that includes examples and exact marketing materials for each tier.

Staff noted the policy is intended as a general framework and that event coordinators will walk potential sponsors through the individual benefits when negotiating contributions. The board asked staff to provide the sponsor packet (with sample materials and suggested logo sizes) for future use and for consistent presentation to prospective sponsors.

A motion to approve the event sponsorship policy with the suggested clarifications passed on a voice vote. Board members said the policy will be used alongside existing sports sponsorship rules and that higher-tier sponsors will receive additional recognition at the community’s largest draws, particularly the All American Festival and Railroad Days.
