The Community Affairs Committee postponed consideration of Proposal 48, reappointing Tasha Ahmad to the Indianapolis Community Food Access Advisory Commission, until its next meeting after members raised concerns about Ahmad's attendance and she was not present to respond.
Chair Ally Brown asked whether Tasha Ahmad was in attendance; committee members said she was not. Councilor Paul (District 22) said Ahmad "has missed more than she's made" and that the committee should hear from her in person before deciding. Councilor Ron Gibson echoed the attendance concern and said Ahmad's absence "sends a message" that needed vetting.
"I personally would like to postpone her to the next meeting just because her attendance, she's missed more than she's made and I just would like to hear from her and better understand why that might be," Paul said.
Brown asked staff member Kendall to contact Ahmad and ensure she knows to attend the committee's next meeting. Paul moved to postpone Proposal 48 to the committee's next meeting; a second was acknowledged and the committee took a voice vote. The chair announced the motion carried and Proposal 48 was postponed to a future meeting.
The transcript records no comments from Tasha Ahmad and no formal vote tally by name. The committee's action defers final disposition of the reappointment until Ahmad can address attendance questions in person.
