Board approves halo-lit sign for Spa Cleaner at 228 Washington with conduit condition

The Design Review Board on March 19 approved an internally illuminated halo (reverse-channel) sign for Spa Cleaner at 228 Washington Street, conditioned on routing electrical conduit so it is as unobtrusive as possible.

Carl Wheeler of AJ Signs described a halo-lit, push-through letter sign with blackout vinyl on the face so light would wrap around the letters rather than glow through the face. Board members and staff discussed the site's signage historythe location previously had an externally lit sign and earlier was an internally lit box sign under a prior tenantand several members asked for care in locating power runs. The applicant said the sign would reuse an existing footing and that conduit would be routed behind the sign structure to minimize visibility.

The board motion approved the sign with a single, explicit condition: that conduit and power runs be installed and routed to minimize visibility from the public right-of-way. The motion passed with no recorded opposition.
