EquiSpace wins committee hearing for $250,000 to support nonprofit shared services and capacity building

Representative Kay Jeong presented House File 16‑38, a request to allocate $250,000 from the workforce development fund to EquiSpace, a nonprofit workspace and shared‑services hub in St. Paul.
Sarah Klein, EquiSpace executive director, told the committee the organization provides affordable, high‑functioning workspaces, IT support, shared meeting rooms and professional development for small and mid‑size nonprofit organizations. She said proximity to other nonprofits creates operational efficiencies and helps smaller organizations meet standards for compliance, accountability and grant administration. Klein said EquiSpace helps reduce the risk of fraud, waste and abuse by ensuring leaders and teams have access to regulatory and operational resources.
Representative Jeong and co‑sponsors framed the request as an investment in the nonprofit workforce, which comprises about 14% of the state’s taxpaying workforce. The committee heard no opposition and laid the bill over for further consideration.
