City of Broken Arrow officials described a planned utility customer dashboard that will let customers view water use and receive alerts about unusually high consumption, officials said.
Vice Mayor Johnny Parks, discussing the tool, said it will “let you know how much water you use” and “also alert you if you're using too much water.” Parks said the dashboard could help customers detect small leaks that otherwise go unnoticed; he gave an example that a small leak can add about $50.75 a month to a water bill.
Aaron McCullough, the city’s director of communications, said the city expects to launch the dashboard on May 5 and will publish educational videos and other information on the city website ahead of rollout. Officials said the system will compare a customer’s data to expected usage and provide alerts, but the meeting recording did not specify which customers or account types will be included, nor the full set of dashboard features or enrollment requirements.
Parks described the dashboard as potentially helpful for conservation and for reducing the city’s production and treatment costs, but he also said implementation will take time. The transcript did not include a formal council vote on the dashboard; officials described it as being in the planning stages.
