The Middletown Common Council moved to close the public hearing on proposed good-cause eviction legislation Tuesday after staff said three written letters opposing the proposal were received.
Meeting staff told the council the public hearing had remained open to receive written comments since March 5 and that three letters had been submitted: from Moshe Eckstein, Tanya Castillo and Benjamin Kos. "To date, we've received 3 letters, in opposition of it," staff said.
No members of the public addressed the council on the item during the meeting. Alderman Massey moved to close the public hearing; a second was recorded and the council voted by voice to close the hearing.
Council members did not record a final vote on adopting the proposed good-cause eviction legislation during the meeting; staff indicated the written comments would be forwarded to council members and become part of the record.
