Indianapolis EMS to move to high-visibility uniforms, pilots nurse-navigation call diversion

Indianapolis Emergency Medical Service Chief Dan O’Donnell reported that IMS crews will begin wearing new high-visibility uniforms this month, shifting from dark blue to safety yellow to improve provider visibility and safety in the field.
O’Donnell also said IMS has started a new EMT civilian training class to recruit full-time staff and is developing a partnership with Crosswalk Health, a nurse-navigation service that would operate within IMS dispatch to redirect some lower-acuity 911 calls to non-emergency resources such as primary care, mental health services or public-health referrals. O’Donnell said the Crosswalk Health partnership is under vendor vetting and subject-matter review, with a goal of launching by the end of the year.
IMS also provided operational updates on event coverage for recent large events and noted its national-profile role in upcoming conferences to showcase training and recruitment efforts. No board action was required.
