Commissioners pick traditional furniture style, direct follow‑up for courthouse seating and colors

The Waller County Commissioners Court selected a traditional furniture package for the county’s new courthouse on March 19, choosing the submission from Wilson (Bauhaus) after reviewing four vendors and a side‑by‑side comparison prepared by the county’s interior designer.

Design staff presented four comparable packages that included workstation systems, private offices, courtroom benches, lobby display tables and traditional judge and attorney furniture. County interior designer Whitney (present via call) summarized pros and cons from each bidder and noted that Wilson’s submission was the most complete for a traditional look appropriate to public lobbies and the courtroom; that package also included record shelving that other bidders omitted.

Commissioners voted to proceed with the Wilson/Bauhaus style as the preferred family of furniture. Staff said the total remains below the project’s furniture and fixtures allocation and that final negotiated pricing will be refined in contract negotiations. The court asked staff to obtain exact pricing and better photographs for the shortlisted courtroom bench options and to present user‑group sessions so commissioners, judges and department heads can confirm fabric, wood stains and seating options before final purchase.

Staff also noted procurement timing — lead times of roughly six to eight weeks once orders are placed — and said vendor installation typically requires under a week on site, with the county responsible for electrical coordination for powered workstations. Commissioners directed staff to return with final quotations for the selected vendor and multiple bench options, including padded and wooden‑seat variants, and to schedule stakeholder review of colors and materials.
