The South San Antonio ISD Board of Trustees approved a reorganization of central office and related pay‑plan amendments at the March 17 meeting, clearing the way to post and recruit for several senior positions.
Superintendent Dr. Sal Hinojosa described the new structure as adding a deputy superintendent, a director of elementary schools and a director of secondary schools. He said the reorganization will allow the district to post the jobs “effective tomorrow” and to recruit candidates (internal applicants would be welcome). Hinojosa also described a Director of Support Services position that could be funded through an external strategic staffing grant coordinated with Region 20 (TA), which would reduce the district’s direct payroll cost for that role.
Human resources staff presented amendments to the 2024–25 pay and compensation plan to reflect the new positions and stipends. The pay plan governs all pay scales, ranges and stipends district‑wide; five amendments were presented that align compensation with the reorganized structure.
Board members asked for clarification on the division of responsibilities among the new roles and whether the Director of Support Services would oversee coaching duties. The superintendent said the deputy superintendent would oversee the curriculum department, the director of secondary would oversee junior high and high schools, and the director of elementary would oversee elementary campuses. The Director of Support Services, if funded through external grant support, would work with principals and instructional coordinators to coach and build capacity for instructional coaches.
Trustees approved the organizational chart and the pay and compensation plan amendments by roll call; both motions passed unanimously.
Implementation steps include posting the positions, recruiting candidates, and, where applicable, coordinating grant funding through Region 20/TA for the strategic staffing grant. The board expects follow‑up agenda items for hiring recommendations and updates on external funding for the support‑services position.
