The Peoria Unified Governing Board voted unanimously Wednesday to adopt a revised organizational chart that creates a dual‑deputy structure: a deputy superintendent for educational services and a deputy superintendent for business and support services (reclassifying the chief financial officer role into that deputy role). The board adopted "option B" during the March 11 meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Summers presented the proposal as a way to clarify lines of responsibility, improve cross‑department coordination and create parallel senior leadership tracks for instructional and operational functions. Under the adopted chart, educational‑service responsibilities (academic support, exceptional student services, elementary and secondary support) will be organized under a deputy focused on instruction and school leadership. Business, operations, finance, technology and support functions will be grouped under a deputy responsible for business and support services.
Dr. Summers said the changes are intended to reinforce both instructional leadership and business operations at the highest levels of district management and to improve hiring competitiveness for senior positions. The board directed administration to post openings for the reorganized positions and to return to the board with recommended hires following a selection process that will include stakeholder input.
Motion to approve option B was moved and seconded during the meeting and passed 5–0. Administration said the proposed effective date for the new chart is July 1, 2025, and that job postings and interview schedules would be shared with the board as they are finalized.
