Assembly refers rezoning request for lot on Sandy Beach Road to planning commission

The Petersburg Borough Assembly unanimously approved a motion Monday to send a request to the borough planning commission to consider rezoning Government Lot 12 at 1016 Sandy Beach Road from rural residential to single-family residential.

Assembly Member Lynn asked the assembly to initiate the rezoning so the parcel would match surrounding residential zoning. The request was moved and seconded during the meeting; minutes indicate Member Newman made the motion and Member Stan Greger seconded it. The assembly voted to forward the matter to the planning commission, with a recorded roll call showing unanimous support.

Member Lynn said the lot is one of the last in that area retaining the rural residential designation and that the planning director had previously requested it be rezoned when similar nearby lots were considered. No substantive debate or amendments were recorded during the assembly discussion.

The referral means the planning commission will begin its standard review process, at which point staff and commissioners will undertake the statutory notice, public hearing and recommendation steps required for any zoning map amendment. The assembly did not adopt a zoning ordinance at this meeting; it only approved starting the planning commission process.
