The House Commerce and Consumer Affairs Committee voted unanimously to place House Bill 167 on the committee’s consent calendar, moving the bill forward without further hearing. The motion to “ought to pass” was introduced by Representative Walz and seconded by Representative Burrows and carried without recorded opposition.
Representative Walz said the measure aims to keep PFAS and related fluorocarbons out of the water and cited examples such as skis and boats. “Obviously we want to keep PFAS and all related fluorocarbons out of our water, so we don't need it on skis, boats, or anything else that would be, in the water at any time,” Walz said on the committee floor.
Walz said the bill follows earlier PFAS legislation and specifically extends prohibitions to wax products, noting that many of the items targeted by the bill are already off the market. “Much like the original bill, the things that we're banning are things that are already taken off the market or not actually available on the market anyways,” she said.
The committee did not debate amendments on the floor; the clerk called the roll and the chair announced the motion carried and that the bill would be placed on the consent calendar.
The bill will appear on the committee’s consent calendar for consideration by the full House at a later date.
