Treasurer-led discussion clarifies posting rules in common areas; office posting allowed in office space

A discussion of Policy 414 on March 19 clarified what kinds of flyers and notices elected officials may post inside the county administration building.
The treasurer prompted the item after staff and taxpayers questioned whether flyers required review by county communications personnel. Staff explained that elected officials have authority to post printed materials within their own office spaces, but postings in common areas are controlled by the Board of County Commissioners unless a public bulletin board exists (the building does not have one). The clerk’s office said office-hours notices and similar operational signage are generally acceptable without communications review; purely personal or unrelated community notices in common areas should be vetted.
Commissioners agreed the practice should be clear to staff and that communications and facilities staff should be consulted when in doubt. No policy change was adopted; staff will provide guidance to offices on appropriate posting practices.
