Finance Committee forwards two Financial Advisory Commission nominees to full council

The Finance Committee on March 19 voted to favorably recommend two mayoral nominees to the Financial Advisory Commission.

Peter Vale introduced himself and said he lives at 1257 Washington Drive near Highland Beach and that he has worked in corporate finance and long-range financial planning. He told the committee he applied previously for the city’s finance director position and said he wanted to begin participating in local government at the committee level.

Joe Rubino said he lives at 3133 Starboard Drive, just outside the city limits, and described himself as a lifelong Annapalen who had a 30-year career in the U.S. Navy and currently serves as chief financial officer at the U.S. Naval Academy. Both nominees said they were willing to serve on the Financial Advisory Commission.

Committee members asked questions about residency and background. Vale clarified that his residence is outside the city limits (near Thomas Point/Arundel on the Bay Road) and Rubino said his daughter recently bought a family home in West Annapolis. After brief discussion, the committee voted to give favorable recommendations for AP 5-25 (Peter Vale) and AP 6-25 (Joe Rubino); the recommendations will be forwarded to the full council for final action.

Why it matters: The Financial Advisory Commission provides advice on long-term fiscal planning, budget and capital improvement issues; committee members said both nominees have relevant finance experience.
