Yuba City council limits quarterly sponsorships to $2,500, splits funds between Playzium Touch‑A‑Truck and Sikh temple parade

The Yuba City City Council voted to limit the city’s community sponsorship disbursements for the current quarter to $2,500 and approved splitting that amount evenly between Playzium’s Touch‑A‑Truck fundraiser and the local Sikh temple’s cultural parade.

Parks staff member Christy Morales summarized the requests: Playzium asked for a monetary sponsorship “up to $2,000” plus in‑kind assistance and staff participation for its Touch‑A‑Truck event (expected to draw more than 3,000 attendees). The Sikh temple requested a $2,500 monetary sponsorship for a cultural parade on April 6. Morales told the council that remaining sponsorship funds included $1,500 carried from quarter 2 and $1,000 budgeted for quarter 3, for a $2,500 total available now.

Playzium’s executive director Stacy Howe spoke at the podium to thank the council and to confirm the event’s history and community participation. Staff estimated the cost of in‑kind city services for Playzium at $1,325.68 (staff time and vehicle participation); that in‑kind cost is charged to the general fund and was discussed separately from cash sponsorships.

Council members debated whether to allocate the full cash requests or preserve funds for later quarters. After discussion they voted first to cap the quarter’s cash sponsorships at $2,500, then to split that cash 50/50. The final council action adopted resolutions approving a $1,250 cash sponsorship to Playzium and a $1,250 cash sponsorship to the Sikh temple. Council members also discussed covering a small remaining staff‑time shortfall through other means but the formal action approved the two $1,250 awards.

Mayor Dave Shaw moved the primary motions; the motions were seconded and approved by the council.
