Committee approves narrower pathway to funeral-director licensure allowing concurrent apprenticeship and education

Under current Tennessee law, the sponsor said, funeral directors must complete two years of school and apprenticeship. The bill would permit applicants to complete their apprenticeship at the same time they complete required coursework: "30 semester hours or 45 hours from a school accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education," the sponsor told the committee. The sponsor said the change provides a more flexible pathway to licensure.
