The House Commerce Committee on Tuesday amended House Bill 373 to reduce the allowable apprenticeship period for incoming tattoo artists from two years to one, and then passed the bill to Calendar and Rules.
Representative Shaw, the bill sponsor, said the amendment (drafting code 5339) "takes it back to 1 year rather than 2 years." The change means a tattoo artist coming to Tennessee can work under a licensed Tennessee apprentice sponsor for one year and then qualify to hold their own license, the sponsor said.
Committee members asked lighthearted and procedural questions during the presentation; no witness testimony or fiscal analysis was offered during the Commerce hearing. The clerk reported a recorded vote of 22 ayes and 0 nos and the bill was sent to Calendar and Rules as amended.
