County awards debris removal and monitoring contracts for disaster response

County Engineer John Stiber told commissioners the county advertised a debris-removal services RFP last year, followed federal procurement rules and used a court‑approved selection committee to choose contractors for debris removal and debris-monitoring services for possible future disaster response.
"This is a just-in-case deal that's good for a county to have, in place to be able to react to disasters," Stiber said, and noted that scope and funding would be defined if a disaster occurs and that the county would seek reimbursement where applicable.
The court voted to award the debris removal services contract to TFR Enterprises Inc.; Commissioner David Tullis moved to approve and Commissioner Chad Mallett seconded. The court then approved awarding debris removal monitoring and consulting services to Thompson Consulting Services; Commissioner Philip Cox moved and Commissioner David Tellis seconded that award. Both motions carried by voice vote.

Stiber said the county will determine scope and funding and seek reimbursement after any disaster; the contracts provide a prequalified response capability but do not obligate county funds until the court approves a defined scope or a funding request.
