Acting Superintendent Doctor Strasser told the board the district is “hopeful for a March 31 start date” for Children’s Home Society (CHS) programming in a district building and provided an update on staff professional-development plans to make up snow days.
Strasser said CHS staff are meeting with principals to clarify the referral process and determine which students would be best served by the program. “We’re still hopeful for a March 31 start date with kids in the building,” Strasser said.
On snow makeup days, Strasser proposed two professional-development days on May 27–28 to satisfy contractual and student contact-time obligations resulting from lost days in February. “We are not just gonna have days to have days,” Strasser said, describing a tentative plan to deliver professional-learning content that adds value for staff. The superintendent said the district would keep the last scheduled student day (Thursday the 22nd) and a half-day teacher work day on the 23rd.
Board member Jamie Clapham asked whether CHS runs summer programming to ensure year-round continuity for students; Strasser replied that CHS operates a full‑year program as part of the district contract. When asked where funds for CHS summer programming come from, Strasser said, “It’s all within the contract that we have with them,” and confirmed payment comes from the district’s general-education budget.
Strasser also highlighted upcoming professional learning: a Solutions Tree consultant will work with principals and PLC teams, and the district’s first National Institute for School Leadership (NISL) cohort will begin orientation in May and training in June. Strasser described an organizational-excellence effort using a “bull’s-eye” approach to hardwire core practices across the district.
The board did not vote on the CHS start date at the meeting; Strasser framed both items as administrative updates and next steps for implementation planning.
