The Santa Ana City Council on March 18 approved a $1.1 million construction delivery budget to repair pavement, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and ramps along Civic Center Drive between Shelton and Flower streets.
Councilmember Hernandez and city staff said the county had invested in improvements elsewhere along the Civic Center corridor and the city’s work is intended to create continuity in the public realm from Fairview to the Logan neighborhood and the train station. The project includes reconstruction and resurfacing of existing pavement, replacement of missing or damaged curbs and sidewalks, and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant ramps.
Staff said outreach will begin within two weeks of contract award; the outreach plan includes meetings with the Washington Square and Flower Park neighborhood associations and distribution of flyers to residents within a 1,000-foot radius. Executive director Nabeel Saba told the council the notices will go out approximately two weeks prior to construction and again shortly before work begins.
The council approved the four recommended actions, including a CEQA determination consistent with an exemption for routine pavement work. The vote was recorded as five ayes with two absences. Councilmembers asked staff to ensure timely and clear outreach in advance of construction to reduce disruption to neighbors and nearby schools.
