WACO, Texas — At the March 18 Waco City Council meeting, resident Ethan Baron raised a longstanding concern about records and approvals related to 1046 Chestnut, saying he has sought answers for more than 20 years about why the original house was demolished.
Baron said he began inquiries in February after finding gaps in the city’s records and questioned whether plans and approvals complied with the city charter and development approvals. He told council members the house was demolished in 2002 and that the current records do not explain why the demolition occurred or which policy or approval permitted it.
Baron asked the city to provide a written response and said he had retained an attorney earlier in the process but had not received a satisfactory answer. He asked staff to search archived records and verify whether the demolition and any subsequent certificates of occupancy complied with the applicable plans and approvals in effect at the time.
Council members thanked Baron for his comments and said staff would follow up on his request. No formal action was taken during the meeting; Baron said he would continue to seek documentation if the city’s response was not satisfactory.
