County agrees to guarantee Fox Theater Phase 2 rehab contract with McKinstry

The Huerfano County Board of County Commissioners voted to approve an agreement for construction work on a portion of the Fox Theater Phase 2 rehabilitation in Walsenburg and authorized the county to act as guarantor on that agreement.
County staff explained the contract covers the re-signing of power and installation of a new rooftop unit for the Fox Theater in Walsenburg. Design and engineering for the remainder of the project remain underway; staff said a change order is expected in the coming weeks to cover additional work. The agreement will be signed by the Spanish Community Foundation doing business as the Fox Theater Walsenburg; the county’s signature functions as a guarantor under a previously signed agreement.
Under the county’s described arrangement, the theater pays invoices directly and the county reimburses the theater; grant-funded items will be balanced as grant reimbursements are received. Commissioners approved the motion to enter the agreement; recorded votes were favorable. The motion passed.
Staff did not provide contract dollar amounts during the discussion and said further design work and any forthcoming change orders would be presented to the board later.
