The Board of Mayor and Aldermen on March 18 approved a resolution accepting transfer of real and personal property, leasehold improvements and lease assignments at 117 West Severe Avenue — the Kingsport Dental Clinic — from the Industrial Development Board of the City of Kingsport.
City officials said the transfer is part of a longer-term plan to develop a dental education facility in Kingsport. Staff said the city will soon begin master planning for the facility in partnership with Northeast State Community College, East Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, among others. Officials noted prior state funding and recent supplemental support that together enabled the city to acquire the building and fund additional improvements.
City staff thanked the Industrial Development Board and named staff leaders who helped advance the project. The board approved the resolution by voice vote, 6–0. The city manager said a master-planning process will start within weeks and that the transfer represents an early but important step toward a dental school facility.
