Fridley recognizes AAA student recipients and winter activities, highlights sports and arts achievements

The Fridley Public School District Board recognized student athletes and activity participants at its March 18 meeting, presenting AAA honors to seniors Maya Karsten and Aiden Ambler and summarizing winter-season accomplishments across sports, performing arts and academic clubs.
Aiden Ambler and Maya Karsten were introduced as this year’s AAA recipients. Board and staff remarks noted the students’ long-term participation in activities — band, choir, plays, multiple sports and technical theater — while maintaining strong academics.
Student presenters summarized winter season highlights: the concert band received an “excellent” rating for a performance with guest clinician Dr. Heidi Miller; Fridley students competed at HOSA and advanced against larger districts; speech had three all-conference winners; the Sparrow advanced to a section final; and students attended Tri-Metro leadership events.
Athletics highlights included boys and girls basketball section wins (noted upsets), a senior who set a single-game 3-point record (nine), wrestling sending five state qualifiers and a swim-and-dive relay placing in state finals and an individual state medalist in the 100-yard butterfly.
The board and superintendent praised student dedication and staff support; no formal action resulted from the recognition.
