The presenter noted that while the percentage share was roughly 2 percentage points lower than the prior year, the district’s per-pupil classroom spending rose by about $400.
The interactive Auditor General report in the board packet allows comparisons to peer districts and state averages. District presenters noted Osborn’s classroom spending exceeded the peer-group average by roughly $1,600 per pupil and that administrative and plant-operation costs were comparable to peer averages. The district also highlighted that food-service spending per meal appears high relative to peers, which district staff described as a deliberate investment in quality, scratch-cooked meals and local sourcing.
Transportation spending per mile was reported to have moved from previously high levels to a low comparative level after improved reporting and state training for staff. The average teacher salary rose to about $63,000 in FY24; the district reported 28% of staff were in their first three years of teaching in that year.
