Pleasant Grove council adopts modest fee increases for Funshine Learning Center

The Pleasant Grove City Council voted unanimously to adopt a resolution adjusting fees for the Funshine Learning Center at the Pleasant Grove Recreation Center.
Council members approved the amendment as part of a consolidated fee schedule change. City staff said the increase is intended to better cover costs for supplies and staff wages while keeping the program a comparatively low-cost option in the area. Recreation staff cited comparable fees in neighboring cities to justify the change.
Program manager Sean Whitaker told the council, “The fees for Funshine just haven't gone up for quite some time.” He described the proposed increases in specific classes: three- and four-year-old classes would rise from $75 to $100; pre-K two-days-per-week from $95 to $125; and pre-K three-days-per-week from $115 to $150. Whitaker said the increases would not fully cover costs but would help “recapture a little bit more of that revenue.”
Staff said the city performed a cost-and-revenue review as part of a broader study of recreation fees, and noted the timing was driven by registration opening for next fall. No members of the public spoke at the hearing.
The motion to adopt “Resolution 2025-10, amending the fiscal year 2024–2025 budget consolidated fee schedule” was made by Council Member Williams and seconded by Council Member Janssen. A roll call recorded Council Member Anderson, Council Member Rogers, Council Member Janssen, Council Member Lamont and Council Member Williams voting yes. The mayor declared the motion passed unanimously.
Council members and staff said they expect to continue reviewing recreation fees incrementally rather than imposing larger single-year increases to ease impacts on families.
