Tammy Ashford Carol, speaking for the advocacy group More Justice during the citizens’ input portion of the March 18 meeting, told Richland County Council she and the group have been communicating with council members on housing issues and are watching the county’s housing request for qualifications (RFQ).
"My organization, More Justice, has sent a few emails to the council members working with the housing ad hoc committee," Ashford Carol said. "We are excited to see what happens next with the housing RFQ. I know for me, I care because I want Richland County to be a county that provides affordable housing options for persons of all income levels who desire to live in our county." She asked members who had not yet replied to check their messages and engage with the committee.
Vice Chair Pew announced two citizen speakers had signed up and noted each had two minutes to speak. Ashford Carol’s remarks were the only substantive public comment on non‑agenda county matters recorded in the transcript for that portion of the meeting.
Council did not take immediate action on the topic during the meeting; council staff and members referenced ongoing ad‑hoc committee activity in subsequent agenda items.
