The Sacramento City Council voted to authorize code compliance to abate weeds, rubbish, refuse and debris from undeveloped properties that constitute a public nuisance and a fire hazard.
The action, approved following a public hearing, is intended to help reduce fire risk during the city's declared fire season, which staff said runs from April 15 through October.
"I'm Sean Bartosz with the Community Development Department. I'm here today to recommend that council authorize code compliance the authority to abate weeds, rubbish, refuse and debris from undeveloped properties that constitute a public nuisance and a fire hazard," said Sean Bartosz, Community Development Department staff presenting the item. Bartosz told the council staff would consider any objections and comments related to the matter and that he was available for questions.
No members of the public registered to speak on the item at the hearing, and Councilmember Guerra thanked code officers and staff for working with neighbors on enforcement and nonresponsive property owners. Guerra opened and closed the public hearing and moved the item.
The council voted to approve the measure; the meeting record shows no roll-call tally for this item and no recusal was announced. The motion passed by voice vote and the council closed the public hearing.
Council action grants staff the authority described in Bartosz's presentation; the council did not adopt additional conditions or change the city's employer or employee retirement contributions as part of this item.
