Riverton staff to send feedback to Wasatch Front Regional Council; council requests parks and correct transit alignment

Riverton ' City planning staff briefed the council on the Wasatch Choice 2050 regional vision and asked for any additional comments before an April 4 submission deadline.
Staff said the regional draft shows a long-term rail/major-transit alignment running along 130 Fourth and the Welby Jacob Trail adjacent to Mountain View Village; staff and several council members told the regional planners that routing along that exact corridor is inappropriate because it would cross private property and conflict with local plans. Staff recommended instead that the regional plan continue along 132 South or Majestic Rise to connect at 126, noting that a bus or bus-rapid-transit alternative would be the near-term locally preferred option.
Staff also flagged two planned city parks (10-acre and 16-acre sites) that are missing from the regional map and requested they be added to ensure consistency between city plans and the regional vision. Council member Perucci and others supported including aspirational long-term transit possibilities in the regional plan but urged that local staff commentary be clear about preferred alignments.
Ending: Staff said it will finalize and transmit Riverton's feedback to the Wasatch Front Regional Council by the stated deadline and will circulate the proposed comment letter to council members for review before submission.
