UN agencies and partners reported continuing humanitarian deliveries to parts of Syria and donor pledges of €5.8 billion at the Brussels donors conference.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said humanitarian aid continues to enter northwest Syria through the Bab al-Hawa crossing. On March 14, World Food Programme trucks crossed into Idlib carrying more than 240 metric tons of food supplies intended to assist some 40,000 people.
UNICEF and partners provided 20,000 liters of fuel and water disinfection to restore water supply in Latakia Governorate following recent violence in coastal areas, and began distributing 2,500 hot meals and other food items to displaced people in Banyas. In a speech at the Brussels conference, Tom Fletcher — who attended as emergency relief coordinator — said the people of Syria "need us to move with urgency," and donors at the conference pledged €5,800,000,000 for Syria and its neighbors.
Ending: UN officials said they will maintain pressure on donors and partners to translate pledges into timely assistance for people inside Syria and displaced in neighboring countries.
