Grand Prairie — The City Council approved two separate development items March 18: a donated site plan for six pickleball courts adjacent to the Wildlife Commerce industrial development, and a site plan for 36 townhomes proposed by MDM on roughly 3.145 acres.
Why it matters: The pickleball donation will add publicly accessible courts and related facilities dedicated to the city; the townhome approval advances a residential infill project that was continued from a prior meeting.
Pickleball courts (Item 15) City staff presented a site plan for a donation described as “Wildlife pickleball”: six courts, a restroom building, and associated parking at 705 West Wildlife Parkway. Staff said the developer will dedicate the improvements to the city upon completion and that the project meets landscaping and connectivity requirements after revisions requested by Parks staff. Planning and Zoning recommended approval 7–0; staff recommended approval to council.
Brad Cooper, who appeared on behalf of the donor, spoke only to note questions were welcome. In council remarks, members thanked Crow (the donor/developer group) and others involved for the contribution. The council approved the site plan by voice vote.
MDM townhomes (Item 16) Staff reminded the council the item was continued from a prior meeting; the proposal calls for 36 townhome units on about 3.145 acres. The applicant agreed to staff’s conditions of approval reported on the record.
Councilmember Mike Doboski moved to approve the site plan (STP‑22‑008‑0040); the motion passed with no recorded opposition.
Details and next steps - The pickleball courts will include connections to the adjacent trail and be dedicated to the city after construction; landscaping revisions replaced shrubs with ornamental trees per parks maintenance preferences. - The townhome project will proceed under the conditions noted in the staff report; the applicant acknowledged coordination with council and staff at briefing.
Ending: Both items passed without recorded dissent and will move to the permitting and construction phases under the conditions reported to the council.
