Committee reviews ratification request for Peachtree Industrial Boulevard water-main emergency; item deferred to audit

Wells said the request will go to audit but provided context: he said roughly $6,000,000 of the total requested amount has already been spent on emergency mobilizations and material purchases, and that ductile-iron pipe has experienced longer lead times since the pandemic.
Wells described the transmission main as one of three feeding the county and said the line supplies water to roughly one-third of DeKalb County, including critical facilities such as Emory Hospital and the Centers for Disease Control. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about timing and costs; Wells said he will return with a detailed breakdown of expenditures and that the item would move through audit before returning to the committee.
The committee voted to defer the ratification for two weeks to allow audit and staff to provide additional documentation. Commissioners asked that the item be prioritized in audit because of its operational importance.
