The Murphy City Council adopted a resolution to approve new mission and vision statements at its March 18, 2025 meeting, formalizing language developed during a council strategic-planning retreat in February.
Jared, the city manager, presented the statements and told the council staff will post them on the city website and return with a draft strategic plan at the second council meeting in April. Jared read the mission statement: “The City of Murphy is dedicated to sustaining that safe, inclusive, and vibrant community. Through strong governance, transparency, and fiscal responsibility, we will enhance infrastructure, economic vitality, and quality of life for all residents.” He also read the new vision statement, which describes Murphy as “a safe, connected, and dependable city where families thrive, businesses prosper, and diversity is celebrated.”
Councilmember comments at the meeting were supportive; a motion to approve the resolution passed on a voice vote with no roll-call tally recorded in the transcript.
Staff said the next step is to develop a draft strategic plan that will be presented to the council for consideration. The meeting record did not specify adoption criteria or timelines for the draft strategic plan beyond the April return date mentioned by staff.
