The Akron Parks & Recreation Committee unanimously approved a resolution congratulating the University of Akron men’s basketball team for winning the 2025 Mid‑American Conference championship and declared an emergency to allow immediate effect.
Councilman Lombardo introduced the resolution and described the Zips’ run through the tournament, noting victories over Bowling Green and Toledo and a final against Miami that ended 76‑74. Lombardo cited the team’s program records, including 25 regular season wins and a 17‑1 conference record, and noted the team will advance to the NCAA tournament.
Councilwoman Boyce also offered congratulations. The committee moved to suspend the rules with a favorable report and there were no recorded votes opposed in the afternoon session.
