House approves local calendar and several judiciary and insurance measures; four local homestead bills recommitted

Chairwoman Beth Camp moved to remove four bills from the local calendar — HB 7‑43 (Social Circle), HB 7‑44 (Walnut Grove), HB 7‑45 (Loganville) and HB 7‑46 (Monroe) — and recommit them to the Committee on Intergovernmental Coordination; the motion carried without objection and the clerk recorded the order.
The House then considered third reading and passage of the remaining local calendar bills, which included a series of homestead exemption measures and local governance items (examples read on the floor included bills for Cobb County, Glenn County, Vidalia, and others). The clerk announced the recorded vote on the local calendar (with the four bills removed): yeas 171, nays 0; the bills received the requisite constitutional majority and were passed.
Separately, the House passed several Senate bills that were presented on the rules calendar with little floor debate: Senate Bill 88 (adds a fourth superior court judge to the Douglas Judicial Circuit) passed yeas 171, nays 0; Senate Bill 145 (adds a sixth superior court judge to the Augusta Judicial Circuit) passed yeas 172, nays 0; Senate Bill 35 (extends the notice period for certain property insurance cancellations or nonrenewals from 30 days to 60 days) passed yeas 168, nays 0.
Clerk announcements and committee reports accompanied the readings; no additional floor amendments were recorded for these items. The House recessed at the end of the day per the majority leader’s motion.
