Resident urges Lowcountry transportation study to address second access to Hilton Head Island

Christopher Cliff said the LAATS draft two-year strategic plan was open for comment through March 31 and that the plan did not include any discussion of investigating a second access to the island. “Nowhere in there is any mention of the consideration of a second access to the island,” Cliff said at the meeting, urging residents to submit comments before the deadline.
Cliff reminded council members and the public that the issue of alternative access had been discussed in earlier bridge conversations and said he expected the corridor review—funding of $500,000 was referenced in the draft but noted as unfunded—to be clarified in public outreach. He encouraged the council and residents to raise the access question during the LAATS public-comment period.
No council action on the LAATS draft was recorded at the March 18 meeting; the comment period and a scheduled LAATS meeting on April 4 were cited by the resident as next steps for public engagement.
