Finance committee recommends about $1.9 million for affiliated agencies; council to consider during budget readings

Council members on the Finance and Administration Committee reported on March 18 that the committee recommended approximately $1.9 million in funding for affiliated agencies to be considered as part of the town’s budget process.
Councilmember Brown, reporting for the committee, said the committee has met twice since the council’s last meeting and that the affiliated-agency review involved presentations from each applicant. He said the full council participated in the discussion and that a recommendation would be forwarded to the budget process for first-reading consideration.
Committee members also directed staff to engage with affiliate partners about updating or creating memoranda of understanding (MOUs) and asked staff and the town attorney to revisit the criteria used to evaluate affiliated agencies and the approval process.
No appropriation was adopted at the March 18 meeting; the recommendation will be considered as part of the town’s formal budget review and adoption schedule. Councilmember Brown said staff would return with proposed allocations during the budget readings.
